FBC, “The Builder” for February 2012:  News from First Christian Academy:
HEAR US ROAR!  “No greater joy can I have than this, to HEAR that my children follow the truth.  3 John 4”

SCHOOLWIDE

Our second report cards went home on January 18.
FCA will be closed on February 20 to observe Presidents’ Day.

PTO NEWS, Mrs. Jackie Lavinder:  Our Parent Teacher Organization at First Christian Academy met on Tuesday, January 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the black box theatre.  The decision was made that each child of a parent in attendance would be able to “dress down” (no uniforms) the next Thursday.  This is considered a treat for students who encourage their parents to attend.  The children really seem to enjoy this so we hope to see you on Tuesday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the theatre!  Lots of important decisions take place at these meetings.  Come cast your votes.

Fine Arts News, Mrs. Shoran Potter:  Mrs. Potter plans to take third through sixth graders to an Association of Christian Schools International Elementary Chorale Competition on Thursday, March 8.  The competition will be at the Indian Rocks Christian School in Largo.  We will be chartering a bus for the approximately 57 students and teachers to attend.  Good luck and God’s blessings to those that will be able to attend!

We will have an Easter Concert on March 29.  Mark your calendars.

There was a school-wide Spelling Bee on January 4 for our 5th through 7th graders.  We are proud to announce Maggie Zawoy, a sixth grader, as the FCA Spelling Bee Champion!  Tyler Levanduski, a fifth grader, came in second and Meghan Collins, a sixth grader came in third.  Maggie advanced to the Alachua County Spelling Bee held in Gainesville on January 25.

The Yearbook Staff invites students and parents to submit photos for the yearbook.  If you have great photos of school events, they would like to have them.  Help the Staff get as many photos as possible to create another terrific Yearbook.

ArtArt in the Park, Mrs. Melissa Levanduski and Mrs. Erin Emerson:  Our Art teachers have announced that our Art in the Park will be held on Tuesday, March 6.  The theme this year is Romans 1:20, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.”  Mrs. Levanduski and Mrs. Emerson are looking for volunteers to prepare our students’ art work.

These teachers at First Christian Academy are reporting some very exciting things going on in their classes:

Mrs. Kim Friar, first grade:  First graders have started talking about the life of Christ during their Bible time.  They have learned four different memory passages so far.  The memory passages are usually six verses at a time.  The first graders also continue to expand their math skills by now learning fractions of ½ and ¼.  They are also learning time to the hour, ½ hour, ¼ past or 45 minutes past.  They are learning about discovering animals, about myself, toys, and insects in science time.  The children are very inquisitive about their studies.  To God be the glory for FCA and the children that attend!

Mrs. Kelli Rumore, third grade:  The 3rd grade at FCA has just kicked off the New Year with an American History curriculum!  They are learning some amazing facts about our country’s beginnings!  They have learned to solve conversion equations and all of the multiplication tables.  There are some fun days on the horizon as they will be visiting the Olustee Battlefield in February.  There is so much to learn and explore!  They are having a fantastic year.

Mrs. Melody Petteway, 5-7 grades:  The 5th through 7th graders were involved in the first annual School Spelling Bee at FCA.  They are proud to announce Maggie Zawoy, a sixth grader, as the School Spelling Bee Champion.  Tyler Levanduski, a fifth grader, came in second and Meghan Collins, a sixth grader, came in third.  All contestants did a great job!!  These students took a step back in time on their field trip to the Hoggetowne Medieval Faire in February.  From jousting tournaments to Robin Hood Theatre, they were able to learn more about the customs, foods, and wares of the Middle Ages.  The students continue to work diligently in their studies.  They all had midterm exams as they completed the 2 nine weeks and first semester.  It is hard to believe that half of the year is over!  Sixth grade is studying the life of Joshua and is learning that faith and obedience go hand in hand.  Thanks for your prayers!
 Linda Petteway
