FCA Fine Arts: FAll 2011

 

Music
K & 1st Your child is learning about RHYTHM! Kindergarten and 1st grade students are using percussion instruments (including the glockenspiel) to study rhythm and beginning music.  Students are currently practicing rhythms containing “do-re-mi” solfege pitches. 

2nd The second grade class is learning to play the “Song Flute”.  Students are studying musical symbols, music notation, and rhythm. The second grade can play two notes on their instruments and have learned their first song!

3rd The third grade class is learning to play the “Flutophone”. Third graders are studying early music theory which includes musical symbols, music notation, and solfege pitches. Students can currently play three notes on their instruments and have learned a few songs!

4th & 5th The fourth and fifth grade classes are learning to play the “Soprano Recorder”.  Students are studying musical symbols, music notation, rhythm, and solfege pitches.            Students can currently play three notes on their instruments and have learned a few songs.

Theatre

6TH & 7TH The middle school students are learning “beginning theatre” games. These improvisational games help students with reaction time, partner work, and character development.

Art

K – 3rd  The younger grades are working on projects utilizing oil pastels, markers, crayons, and paint.  They are learning their primary and secondary colors and the basic elements of art. Seasonal projects including still life paintings of gourds, squash, and pumpkins were painted. 

4th & 5th The 4th and 5th grades are working on projects that utilize the art-math concept symmetry and have also painted still life projects. They have been learning about the color wheel and creating projects with mixed media based on primary, secondary, and tertiary colors.

6th & 7th The older students are working on projects entitled “Claim You Can’t Draw” which uses art-math concepts graphing and proper prospective. “Crazy Critters” was a unique project based on the art-math concept symmetry.

ALL classes are learning the “Seven Elements of Art”: Line, Texture, Shape, Color, Space, Value, and Form.

All students should have their own 8.5” x 11” sketchbook.

Chorus

K – 2nd The lower elementary classes are busy preparing for their upcoming Christmas concert on Tuesday, December 13!  Students should report to the theatre at 6:30 pm.  The concert will begin at 7:00 pm in the FBC Sanctuary.  K – 2nd students should wear Sunday “dress”            clothes for this performance!

3rd – 7th The upper grades are preparing for their upcoming Christmas concert on Thursday, December 15! Please see the back of this newsletter for IMPORTANT information about concert attire.
