Parents,
I have sent updated progress reports for Math and Spelling. Remember that school is closed on Monday due to President's Day. I asked the kids to take home their Spelling books over the long weekend so that they could get a jump start on the next Spelling list (5th and 6th - LIST 22 and 7th - List 19). They will still have the regular Spelling Test on Friday. Therefore, PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO BEGIN STUDYING THE NEW SPELLING LIST!!!!!!!
Many kids are taking advantage of the extra credit "Problem of the Week" for Math. However, many are not. These points are added to a test grade at the end of the nine weeks. This is a great opportunity and your child has all week to work on the problem. It is due on Friday! Please be sure that only HELP is being offered at home!
5th grade:
Thurs., 2/23- Spelling Trial Test 22
Fri., 2-24 - Math Quiz 12

Parents:
You will soon be receiving the weekly progress report for both language and reading. You may notice a difference in grades from the progress reports given out on Wednesday. One reason being that the students have had quite a few more grades entered. Another being that the oral reading grade has been changed from counting as a quiz grade, to now counting as a test grade. This improved each student’s grade.
In reading, we have started reading logs. Each week, your child is expected to read at least 20 minutes each night. They are to write down the title of the book, author, number of pages read, and how many minutes they read using the reading log form I provide. Every Thursday night their homework is to write a paragraph about the book they are reading. To help them come up with topics to write about, there are comment ideas on the back of the reading log. They are to write about their book using a comment idea from the list. Please take a look at their log each week and sign this paper on Thursday night in the space provided. This seems to be a great way to get everyone involved in reading more often.
Have a wonderful weekend! As always, if you have any questions or concerns please contact me via email.
